Ron Pohlman

Attorney

Ron Pohlman is a native of western Iowa. He was born in Sioux City and grew up on a grain/livestock farm near Castana and graduated from West Monona High School in Onawa in 1981. After high school, Ron studied Ag Business at Iowa State University and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from ISU in 1985. After college, he went to law school at Drake University and graduated in 1988. While attending Drake he clerked for the workers’ compensation commissioner and after graduating he began work as an administrative law judge for Job Service hearing unemployment compensation appeals. After 10 years of work as an ALJ for Job Service and several thousand unemployment appeal hearings, Ron worked as an ALJ for the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals hearing cases in involving Medicaid, Food Stamps, Promise Jobs, and child and adult abuse registry. In November of 2000, Ron returned to workers' compensation when he became a deputy workers’ compensation commissioner. Ron heard over 800 cases as a deputy commissioner until he retired in September 2015 and went into private practice in workers’ compensation insurance defense. Ron left the defense practice in West Des Moines to return to western Iowa and to exclusively represent injured workers. Ron has also taught college courses in business, law, and public administration for the past 25 years at Des Moines Area Community College, Upper Iowa University, and Regis University. Ron has earned a Master of Business Administration (2000) and a Master of Science in Adult Education (2001) from Drake University. He and his wife, Kim, reside in Sioux City. Testimonials

What our clients write about us

Ron is so knowledgeable and caring. He knows workman’s comp law thru and thru and represented me with such great compassion and care for my situation. Ron is one of the best lawyers I’ve ever worked with!

When I injured my back at work, I was struggling to get good care, much less my payments I was supposed to be getting. I tried to navigate the work comp world and much to my dismay, it was a horrible experience. I reached out to Ron and told him what was going on, he listened, he took notes, he advised and was compassionate. I had to also learn how to navigate anxiety at the same time. He was always there to answer all of my questions, trust me I had so many. Ron never got annoyed with me and always helped me to understand the processes of everything. I would highly recommend him to anyone that is in need of a work comp lawyer! He listens and genuinely cares about people. I thank him for absolutely everything he did for me!

My first experience with having to get a lawyer and going in having no idea about how things work . Ron and DeAnn made it easy made me feel welcomed . They both wanted what was best for me and would go above and beyond to make things right. I felt very comfortable and later on I felt like they we're family and I still do. I’m glad I made the decision to work with Ron and DeAnn they were always on top of things, great communication and clarification. Ron and DeAnn have changed my life I am now getting the right care I need and for that I am thankful.
